About

Welcome to Interview Engineering, the home of interview process improvement for the technology industry.  We host a forum for members to share interview stories and contrast best and worst practices, and publish a journal about techniques and findings from our research (subscribe to updates here).  If you work in tech, we invite you to create a profile and contribute to the discussion.  The world needs your input!

OUR MISSION At Interview Engineering, we aim to teach organizations that hiring is a critical business process so that you will find and keep the best talent for you. We help you identify and implement good techniques for assessing engineers, scientists, and other technical staff.  It turns out that EQ is at least as important as IQ for bringing the right people into your organization.  We believe that by pooling and sharing  knowledge and experience, we can help businesses make better hiring decisions, build stronger teams, and reduce costly turnover.

OUR ORIGINS The founder of Interview Engineering is Tyler Sheffield, an experienced electronics industry professional.   He has worked mainly in the aerospace, defense, and automotive industries for companies large and small, in hardware and software, since 2004.  He has been part of hundreds of interviews on both sides of the table and along the way became a student of engineering organizational behavior.  He brings an engineer's mindset to the interesting challenge of interviewing and began researching and writing on the topic in 2017.

EQ (noun):

abbreviation for emotional quotient; a measurement of a person's emotional intelligence; the ability to understand the feelings, motivations, and values of self and others
