The Critical Job Description Job

Updated: Feb 24, 2024

It should be easy for candidates to learn about a company and a job. - Peter Cappelli in Harvard Business Review

It isn’t that difficult to write up a good job description, but one marvels at how little effort is often put into what may be the very critical first impression your organization makes on potential new hires.  Producing a good job description is not hard, but it is important.  This is the foundation of the interview, the first step on the ladder.  If that step is not well-placed, you start the whole thing off in the wrong direction.  It’s possible your job description may not actually connect you with any of the types of candidates you need it to.  It can take valuable weeks or months to find your mistake.

As a candidate, recruiters are continually apologizing to me for their client’s or boss’s poor job descriptions.   - TS

Make a good first impression. Keep your website and postings up to date.  You want to look sharp.
